Veronica Knapp: a Career in Security, Operations and Leadership
Enlisting as a military police officer in 2000, Command Sergeant Major Veronica Knapp has led a distinguished career in the U.S. Army. Veronica Knapp ascended the ranks in several domestic and international positions to become the first woman in the Army to assume a division level leadership role. In 2021 she assumed responsibility for the social well-being of over 30,000 service members and their families at the second largest military base in the Army. She also oversaw professional development of subordinate leaders and community relations across the installation, Kentucky and Tennessee and earned high ratings from the XVIII Airborne Corps Commander.
Previously, CSM Knapp led the largest combat support military police brigade for the XVIII Airborne Corps in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, overseeing the training and development of 4,300 subordinates across five installations. Additionally, she managed 600 personnel at Ft. Leavenworth in Kansas, operating the Army’s only maximum security prison. In addition, CSM Knapp was the deputy warden of the Regional Correctional Facility in South Korea, where she supported United States Forces Command and 8th Army. She has received a number of accolades over her career, such as two Legions of Merit, five Meritorious Service Medals, the Afghanistan Campain Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In 2021 Veronica Knapp continued her education towards a BA in criminal justice at Upper Iowa University, where she earned an associate degree. After over 26 years of honorable service, she will retire from the Army in the latter part of 2026. She intends to spend more time with her family, travel overseas and explore the nation’s national parks.
